LG Puts Crystal Sound OLED in G8 ThinQ

LG continues to tease the features in the upcoming G8 ThinQ smartphone-- with the next feature involving the fact the smartphone produced audio through the display through the addition of Cystal Sound OLED (CSO) technology.

LG G8 ThinQDeveloped in-house by LG, CSO is a technology already used by the company to produce TVs able to produce surround sound despite lacking actual speakers. To do so, CSO embeds a audio system into the OLED panel. The screen acts as the speaker membrane, while exciters dotted around vibrate in order to produce sound.

Futuresource: Wearables Ride High in 2018

The wearable device market is on a high in 2018, Futuresource reports-- global shipments of wearable devices total 105 million in 2018, a 10% increase brought about growing consumer interest in the category.

wearables“Not only are shipments on the increase, but we’re also seeing a rise in the ASP,” the analyst says. “As a result, last year’s global retail value exceeded $19 billion, equating to a 17% increase in value, outstripping the increase in shipments by some way. This price rise is largely thanks to increasing demand for smartwatches and a parallel stagnation of activity trackers and sports watches, plus a declining interest in basic fitness devices.”

DJI Updates European Drone Geofencing

DJI follows on the December 2018 incidents in Gatwick London airport-- where the sightings of drones brought about the closure of the runway of one of the busiest airports in Europe-- with an update on the geofencing technology inside its drones.

DJI drone controlThe Geospatial Environmental Online (GEO) 2.0 system update affects drones in 13 European countries already covered by the original GEO system, as well as 19 more countries previously lacking in advanced geofencing. According to the company, GEO reflects the actual safety risks posed when flying drones around sensitive facilities, while being more flexible in lower-risk areas.
