The Meizu Zero With... Zero Ports, Buttons

Chinese phone maker Meizu presents what is probably the first smartphone lacking in buttons or ports-- the aptly named Meizu Zero, possibly the ultimate in minimalist smartphone design.

Miezu ZeroAccording to Meizu, the Zero has “no buttons, no speakers holes, no SIM card slot, [and] no charging port.”  As such, the device is a seamless ceramic oblong housing a 6-inch AMOLED display. Slim bezels at the top and bottom house a 20MP front-facing camera and microphone, while the back reveals a 12 + 20MP dual-camera setup. The display also features under-glass fingerprint sensor, together with "mSound 2.0" technology turning it into a speaker.

LG Teases Gesture Control for MWC

The invite for the LG Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 press event has the company promise a farewell to touch-- instead, gesture appears to be the input method of choice for the latest devices from the S. Korean company.

Goodbye touch LG"Are you prepared to get stunned by the LG Premiere at the MWC 2019?" the description of the YouTube video asks, before giving a 24 February date for the MWC launch event. As to what LG will launch no one really knows for sure, although the grapevine suggests it will carry the "Premiere" name. Then again, perhaps that might simply be a case of taking the title of the teaser video a bit too literally...

Honor Watch Magic Reaches Europe

Honor launches a first smartwatch in the European market-- the Honor Watch Magic and Honor Watch Dream, a pair of very similar devices promising week-long battery life, GPS tracking and a slew of fitness monitoring modes.

Honor Watch MagicThe two smartwatches are technically a redesign of the Honor Watch, a smartwatch released in China back in October 2018. Both are essentially identical, with the chief difference being the Dream uses smaller band sizes in a choice of pastel colours. Thus, the Magic and Dream feature a 1.2-inch 390 x 390 resolution AMOLED display within a stainless steel case 9.8mm thick and 32.5g heavy.

A Highlight on EU Digital Radio Rules

The Brussels Motor Show brings together policy makers, broadcasters and car makers to raise awareness of EU rules demanding all new car radios to be capable of receiving digital terrestrial radio within 2 years.

Auto digital radioDubbed the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), the regulation states  “any car radio receiver integrated in a new vehicle available for sale or rent in the EU will be required to include a receiver capable of receiving and reproducing radio services provided via digital terrestrial radio broadcasting.” It was put into effect on 20 December 2018, and member states have 2 years to put it into national legislation.

Christmas Revenues Up 1% for Dixons Carphone

Dixons Carphone announces group revenues for the 10-week period ending 5 January 2019 are up by 1% like-for-like, with a drop in mobile and Carphone Warehouse sales affecting overall results even as gaming products see strong growth.

Dixons Carphone“Peak trading was solid and in line with expectations, producing record sales against a tough backdrop," CEO Alex Baldock says. "We continued to grow our leading electrical market positions in all territories, online and instore. In UK mobile, performance was as expected. Overall, our peak trading was disciplined and well-executed, with stable gross margins."
