Portable B&O Audio With Beoplay P6

Bang & Olufsen adds a second Bluetooth speaker to the more affordable B&O Play line-- the Beoplay P6, a portable number featuring 360-degree audio and a built-in microphone for use with voice assistants.

BeoPlay 6The company does not specificy which assistants the P6 supports, meaning it probably depends on what is running on the smartphone it is connected to. Meanwhile the 360-degree audio (or "True360," as B&O calls it) comes from stereo speakers facing opposite directions, filling the area with sound.

Apple Closes Last Watch Pop-Up Store

Apple aficionados have until 13 May 2018 to check out the last pop-up store dedicated to the Apple Watch-- the shop found in the Isetan department store in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Apple Watch StoreThe Tokyo pop-up was opened to inaugurate the 2015 launch of the smartwatch. It was one of three such pop-ups dedicated to the Watch, and following the closure of the Paris and London stores, is the one that survived the longest. Admittedly by now it is on borrowed time, since Apple opened a proper Store in Shinjuku, just across Isetan, earlier in April 2018.

ViewSonic presents what it claims is a first high brightness DLP 4K UHD home projector-- the PX747-4K, a projector capable of beaming 3840 x 2160 resolution images at 3500 lumens brightness.

Viewsonic projectorThe PX747-4K uses SuperColor technology to deliver "intense" colour reproduction, while Texas Instruments XPR technology provides high contrast and 8.3 million pixels for super-sharp big screen images. The projector is HDR-compatible, while the 3500 lumens brightness and 12000:1 contrast ratio ensures sharp details in both bright or dark environments. Image adjustment comes through 1.2x optical zoom.

Futuresource: Consumer Entertainment Continues to Grow

According to Futuresource Consulting, global spending on consumer entertainment content (video, games and music) remains on the up-- and is set to reach $439 billion by 2021, a 17% increase from 2017.

"As expected, TV and Video account for the lion's share of this consumer spend," the analyst says. "However, music has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years and continued innovations within gaming means that both markets are impacting on consumers' spending habits, with smartphones a key facilitator of this tearing up of the entertainment market rulebook."

Sony Shrinks Digital Paper Tablet

Last year Sony announced the DPT-RP1, a 13.3-inch tablet with an ePaper display users could write or draw on with a stylus. Now the company presents the DPT-CP1, a smaller 10.3-inch version.

DPT-CP1A prime example of "Sony weird," the DPT-CP1 allows one to create documents and annotate PDF documents, with 16GB of storage customers can share with iOS, Android, Windows and Mac devices via companion app. The ePaper displays offers 1404 x 1872 resolution and 16 greyscale levels, and Sony says the device lasts around 1 month on a single charge.
