Smart home security vendor Abode launches the Iota-- an all-in-one security device bringing together a 1080p security camera, motion sensor and home security gateway in a single devices.

Abode IotaFirst seen back at CES 2018, the Iota is designed to enable more flexibility in security system design. It works as either a standalone device or as part of a wider Adobe security system, with support for Z-Wave, ZigBee and RF connectivity support allowing it to pair with compatible devices, as well as products from the likes of Nest, Ecobee, Philips Hue and LifX, among others.

Also included are DLP DarkChip3 and BrilliantColor refinements for deep black levels and vibrant cinematic images. To resolve a 4K 1-pixel line pattern, the HK2288 uses eXpanded Pixel Resolution (XPR) technology employing 4.15 million (2716 x 1528) mirrors capable of switching over 9000 times per second to deliver two discrete pixels for each mirror per frame.

Samsung Boosts Mobile Devices With Exynos 9820

Samsung presents an update to its Exynos system-on-chip (SoC) range-- the Exynos 9 Series 9820, a processor the company says offers a new design and CPU configuration compared to the previous 9810 chip.

Korean giant, the 9820 features a 2+2+4 setup, meaning it has two 4th generation custom CPUs as top performing units, two Cortex A75 CPUs as mid-tier performance cores and four Cortex A55 CPUs for maximum power efficiency. The result is a single-core performance boost of 20% compared to the 9810 (the chip inside the Galaxy S9), or a 40% boost in power efficiency. In addition, multi-core performance is up by 15%, while broadband speeds clock at up to 2.0Gbps.

The Next Mini-Console is... the PC?

With just about every console from the 80s and 90s getting a shrunken-down version, the announcement of yet another machine of the sort should come to no surprise-- unless it happens to be PC Classic, a tiny take on, well, the PC.

PC ClassicMade by Maryland-based Unit-e Technologies, the PC Classic in the least has the look down, with a cheerfully beige plastic shell complete with "cooling vents" and even what looks like a little 5.25-inch style drive. The little drive takes SD cards, and beneath it are a pair of USB ports for controllers or input peripherals. The unit connects to TVs or monitors via HDMI or composite video out, and the back hides another USB port. Bluetooth connectivity is also included.

IDC: iPad Sustains W. European Tablet Volumes

According to IDC, W. European tablet shipments total 7.5 million units in Q3 2018-- a -2.9% Y-o-Y decline, with decent slate results in both commercial and consumer markets helping sustain an ailing market.

Strong back to school sales and "solid" enterprise growth help slate tablets in the enterprise segment, in good part thanks to "exceptional" iPad performance. Meanwhile smaller companies prove susceptible to consumer promotions, leading to healthy growth in SMB space. On the consumer side, strong iPad sales, Amazon Prime day and early seasonal promotions (such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday) bring slate shipments to a positive for the first time since 2013.
