The Next Standalone VR Headset Contender: Shadow VR

The way to go in virtual reality (VR) is clearly standalone, as Chinese company Shadow Creator is the next company to reveal such a headset with the Shadow VR, a 6DoF headset featuring the HTC Vive Wave platform.

Shadow VRRevealed at the recent HTC Vive event, the Shadow VR is a standalone headset complete with 6DoF controllers self-developed by Shadow Creator. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and features a 110-degree field of view display with Fresnel Optics. While based on the Vive Pro reference design from HTC, the Shadow VR offers lower display resolution (2560 x 1440, as opposed to the 2880 x 1600 of the Vive Pro). However, it features the same inside-out "world-scale" tracking technology using stereoscopic front cameras.

Customers wanting a wireless charger they can hide in the house? Accessory maker Twelve South might have a solution with the PowerPic, a regular 5x7 picture frame with a wireless charger inside.

PowerPicThe PowerPic charges any Qi-enabled phone, with up to 10W of fast wireless charging. It plugs into any USB outlet, PC or phone adapter, and a small status light on the back lets the user know when the phone is fully charged or if a foreign object is preventing the phone from charging properly. Wireless charging takes place through most phone cases up to 3mm thick.

Xiaomi Black Shark Heads to Europe

Xiaomi announces a European release for the Black Shark-- the first gaming smartphone from the Chinese giant is set to arrive in our part of the world later on November 2018.

Xiaomi Black sharkReleased in Xiaomi's home China back in April 2018, the Black Shark is a 5.9-inch handset with fairly solid specs. It features an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, Adreno 630 GPU, 6/8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage and an IPC LCD display with 1080 x 2160 resolution, making an 18:9 aspect ratio. On the camera front the phone has a dual-camera setup on the rear with a 12MP primary and 12MP secondary sensor, and a 20MP front-facing shooter. Powering all is a 4000mAh battery.
