Razer Phone Powers Linda Laptop

Gaming peripheral maker Razer continues its CES 2018 tradition of showing off interesting prototypes with Project Linda-- a laptop dock for the recently released Razer Phone.

Project LindaOf course, the concept of using a smartphone as the guts of a laptop is nothing new. After all, Motorola had the Lapdock back at CES 2011, a laptop powered via the Atrix 4G handset. What gives Project Linda at least some potential the Razer Phone carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the powerful processor behind the Microsoft "Always Connected PC" initiative.

Another interesting feature of the Linda is the smartphone slots on the bottom part of the keyboard, taking the role of either the touchpad or a second screen. The dock is based on the Razer Blade Stealth laptop, and includes a 13.3-inch touchscreen, full-size keyboard, 200GB storage and extra batteries.

Samsung Shows Off QLED at CES 2018

Samsung continues to push QLED-- the rival technology to OLED promising similar image quality while being easier to produce-- at CES 2018, with an upgrade promising improved lighting management as well as any number of smart features.

Samsung CESThe Korean giant still has to detail its 2018 TV lineup, even if it does include at least one model boasting brightness reaching over 2000 nits thanks to full-array local dimming (or directly backlighting the quantum dots making the display). This is significant, since 2017 QLED TVs could only reach a maximum 1000 nits brightness.

Further improvements include a layers of black and anti-reflection filters to minimise internal light leakage and external glare as paired with an anti-blooming algorithm. The company also says 2018 QLED TVs will be "tremendously" easy to setup via syncing with a smartphone or tablet, while the addition of Bixby provide voice control.

The addition of a Lightning port makes the charger particularly useful for iDevice users, since they will not need to change cables when switching between wired and wireless charging. The pad charges up to two Qi-enabled devices simultaneously, and also includes a USB-A port for the wired charging of just about anything else.

Home automation vendor Kopi presents a range of HomeKit-compatible home security devices at CES 2018-- including a central security hub, contact sensors, a smoke and CO sensor, and a motion sensor.

It connects to home networks via wifi, and can raise an alarm via built-in high-pitched speaker users can arm or disarm via NFC tags.
