TPVision-owned Philips reveals a range of LED and OLED TVs for 2018, with models including the entry-level 4K 6503 series, the HDR10+ capable 8303 and 5203 series, and no less than 5 OLED screens.

On the LED side, the 6503 entry-level 4K series features in 43-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch models. All carry HDR support, Ambilight technology, a "Pixel Precise Ultra" processing engine and the Philips Saphi UI. Following on these models are the 7303 TVs, coming in the same sizes but adding DTS-HD Premium audio processing and the "P5 Perfect Picture" processing engine. The TVs run on Android, and as should feature Google Assistant voice control.

Qualcomm is the latest company to face the ire of the European Union-- following the €2.42 billion fine slapped at Google, the European Commission orders the chipmaker to pay €997 million for "abusing its market dominance."

"Qualcomm illegally shut out rivals from the market for LTE baseband chipsets for over five years, thereby cementing its market dominance." European commissioner in charge of competition policy Margrethe Vestager says. "Qualcomm paid billions of US Dollars to a key customer, Apple, so that it would not buy from rivals. These payments were not just reductions in price-- they were made on the condition that Apple would exclusively use Qualcomm's baseband chipsets in all its iPhones and iPads."

Technically monopolies are not against EU policy, but according to the EC Qualcomm got to dominate the market through means deemed abusive. How so? In 2011 Qualcomm started making "significant payments" to ensure the exclusive use of its LTE baseband chips in iPhones and iPads. If Apple started using chipsets supplied by a rival (such as Intel) the payments would not only stop, but the agreement dictated the iPhone maker would have to return "a large part" of payments received.

British flash specialist Integral Memory presents what it claims is the biggest microSD card yet-- the 512GB microSDXC V10 UHS-I U1 card, ideal for customers demanding a "massive memory boost."

The card meets the Video Speed Class 10 (V10) standard for fast data transfers, meaning it has a minimum write speed of 10MB/s. Thus the card should be ideal for HD/4K video recording in digital cameras, action cams, drones and camcorders.

High-end digital cinema camera RED takes to its forums to announce the shipping window of the Hydrogen One smartphone-- "sometime in the summer," with preorders to open "probably in April."

Announced back in June 2017, the Hydrogen One remains something of a mystery device. Its USP is "four view" (or 4V), a technology allowing the phone to handle regular 2D video, stereo 3D, augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality, all without need for glasses or headsets. How the technology works is anyone's guess, since RED is still to provide any details other than "there is no way to describe this. You just have to see it."
