The Tetra is the kind of unusual home appliance one only tends to see at CES 2018-- a compact countertop number able to not only wash a handful of dishes, but also... cook seafood?

Developed by connected water heater maker Heatworks and design firm frog, the Tetra is designed to handle the dishwashing needs of 2-person household. As such, it is large enough to hold 10 plates or 12 pint glasses. It promises to use less water than handwashing, without the need to wait for enough dishes dishes to fill a larger dishwasher.

“Our research indicates that although the average household is comprised of 2.58 people, the modern dishwasher holds place settings for 13 or more,” Heatworks says. “This makes people believe that they either need to handwash their few dirty dishes-- which wastes 10 times more water than using a dishwasher-- or wait for a fill load to run a cycle. With Tetra, we hope to change people's mindset.”

Chinese laptop maker GDP returns to the  handheld console-stye gaming laptop concept with the Win 2-- a sequel to the first Win device promising more powerful specification for better game performance.

Like its predecessor, the Win 2 is a Windows 10 laptop with built-in gaming controls (namely two analog sticks, d-pad and four face buttons).  It offers 6-inch 1280 x 720 resolution display, an Intel Core m3-7Y30 processor with integrated HD Graphics 615, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD storage and two 4900mAh batteries promising 6-8 hours of power on a single charge.

Tony Fadell, co-founder of smart thermostat maker Nest, joins forces with luxury watchmaker Ressence to present the Type 2 e-Crown Concept-- a combination of mechanical watch and (some) connected smarts.

Presented in prototype form at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), the watch's main point of interest lies in the "e-Crown" portion of the name. The e-Crown is an electronic system set between the mechanical movement and the display disc. It pairs with an iPhone app, and allows users to switch between two time zones after the time is first conventionally set.

Nvidia has a surprise product on show at CES 2018-- "Big Format Gaming Displays" (BFGDs), an apt moniker for what is essentially a line of 65-inch 4K HDR monitors.

Being primarily aimed at high-end gamer customers, BFGDs feature a number of requisite technologies. These include 120Hz refresh rate, 4K resolution, HDR and G-Sync. Also included is means to play games without need for a PC through built-in Shield hardware.

The company says BFGs are primarily aimed at desktop use, not as a living room TV replacement, even if HDMI inputs allow the connectivity of a STBs and the like. In addition, the built-in Shield handles streaming media needs through YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps. Google Assistant support allows for voice control and smart assistant capability.
