Portable projector maker Pico Genie brings its latest consumer offering at ISE 2018-- the M550 Plus, a pico projector that, at 650 lumens, is the company's brightest yet.

Pico Genie M550 PlusThe M550 Plus beams 1280x800 resolution images in dimensions of to 200-inch diagonal from 0.5 - 3m distance. It offers 3D as well as regular 2D images, and promises a battery life of up to 3 hours on a single charge. The contrast ratio is 1000:1, while lamp life clocks at around 20000 hours. Audio is also included via 3W speakers.

WyzeCam Gets Sequel

The low-cost WyzeCam streaming security camera gets a sequel-- the WyzeCam v2, an update promising improved video and audio quality, from the same low price point.

WyzeCamThe WyzeCam v2 carries a 1080p camera identical to that in the previous version, but an improved CMOS sensor should produce crisper images, especially in night vision mode. In addition the amplifier is more powerful, and the audio chip better resists interference.

Another feature getting improvements is the AI, allowing the camera to highlight moving people and objects, making scrubbing through recorded footage in order to find what triggered the motion alert easier.

Spotify, Smart Speaker Maker?

The Guardian reports one of the biggest music streaming providers is going to enter hardware-- Spotify is currently looking for employees to make "category defining" hardware products.

Spotify SpeakerThe job adverts state Spotify plans to create a hardware category "akin to Pebble Watch, Amazon Echo and Snap Spectacles." One position at the streaming provider posted back in April 2017 is for a senior product manager able to “define the product requirements for internet connected hardware [and] the software that powers it," while other, more recent, adverts have the company looking for an “operations manager,” “senior project manager: hardware production,” and “project manager: hardware production and engineering.”

A Headphone Jack-Connected SonarPen Stylus

Hong Kong-based startup Greenbulb takes to Kickstarter to launch a lower-cost alternative to the Apple Pencil-- the SonarPen, an iPad stylus users connect to the tablet via 3.5mm headphone jack.

SonarPenCompatible with any iPad released after 2011, the SonarPen uses an interesting means to transmit pressure data to the iPad. It essentially turns pressure information into sound waves, which in turn are carried by the audio cable. The iPad then interprets the audio signals back into digital information.

Ahead of Mobile World Conference (MWC) 2018 Qualcomm announces plans a reference design for a VR headset-- one based on the Snapdragon 845 mobile device processor able to deliver "one-of-a-kind experiences."
