Bose Presents Audio-Focused AR Glasses

Bose is the next company to take on augmented reality (AR) wearables, if with a twist-- the Bose AR platform claims to be "the world’s first audio augmented reality platform."

Bose ARFirst presented at SXSW 2018, the Bose AR glasses might look like the recently revealed Intel Vaunt, but they do not involve displays or cameras of any kind. Instead the glasses act as a kind of wearable headphone, providing users with "an audible layer of information and experiences."

"Unlike other augmented reality products and platforms, Bose AR doesn't change what you see, but knows what you're looking at-- without an integrated lens or phone camera," the company adds.

LG Presents 2018 OLED, SUHD TVs

LG reveals the 2018 OLED and Super UHD (SUHD) TV lineup-- with an array of models featuring ThinQ artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the latest Alpha 9 processor.

LG 2018 OLEDThe S. Korean company offers a total of 10 OLED TVs for 2018, including the W8, G8, E8, C8 and B8. Each model comes in a range of form factors, such as Picture-on-Wall (model 77/65W8), One Glass Screen (model G5G8), Picture-on-Glass (model 65/55E8) and Cinema Screen (model 77/65/55C8 and 65/55B8). Screen sizes range from 55- to 77-inch, with the 9 AI-enabled SUHD sets (model SK95, SK85 and SK80) coming in sizing ranging from 49- to 75-inch.

The Alpha 9 processor powers the W8, G8, E8 and C8 OLED series. It promises enhanced image rendering, more accurate colours and "perfect" black levels through four-step noise reduction, advanced colour mapping and high frame rate (HFR) support at 120fps. Dolby Atmos comes standard across the range.

In second place is the official Raspberry Pi 7-inch touchscreen. It can make Internet of Things (IoT) devices with a display, or enable a range of educational software and programs. Customers with a want for digital art can do so with a new Wacom device, as the company announces a "significantly upgraded" version of the Intuos pen tablet aimed at creative beginners and enthusiasts.

H2 2018 Release for Bixby Smart Speaker

Samsung mobile division president DJ Koh confirms to the Wall Street Journal the long-rumoured Bixby-powered smart speaker will see release sometime in H2 2018.

Samsung speaker“When I introduce the first model, I don’t want to give the impression that Samsung delivered another affordable mass model,” Koh tells the WSJ. “I want to focus on more premium.”

Details on the Samsung smart speaker are as scant as it gets. One can assume it will tie with the SmartThings smart home system, allowing it to handle home automation tasks as well as usual assistant duties such as music, reminders, timers and trivia. The WSJ also suggests the speaker might have different pricing tiers, with a more affordable version launching together with the premium device.
