Pioneer announces three in-dash receivers with support for Android Auto Wireless as well as Apple CarPlay-- the AVIC-W8400NEX, -W6400NEX and -W4400NEX, with connectivity via either wireless or USB.

Pioneer auto unitsBeing able to handle both Google Assistant and Siri, the receivers allow users to control smart home devices such as home lights, garage doors and thermostats from the car. They also promise to be "the most feature packed receivers offered by Pioneer," with support for back up cameras, navigation and FLAC file playback without need for conversion.

TPV Gets Gibson-Held CE Licenses

Following the bankruptcy of legendary guitar maker Gibson, Hong Kong-based TPV Technology gets the worldwide license for the Philips brand in audio and video products and accessories.

Philips TPVUntil recently Gibson Innovations was responsible for sales, marketing and distribution of certain Philips-branded audio and video products and accessories worldwide. These include headphones, Bluetooth speakers, audio playback speakers and DECT cordless phones. TPV (and its TP Vision unit) already held the Philips license for a number of devices, namely TVs, mobile phones, tablets and monitors, outside of N. America.

Two Stacked Displays for the TicWatch Pro

Mobvoi has an interesting solution for smartwatch power woes-- the TicWatch Pro has two circular displays, with a transparent low-power display stacked on top of an OLED touchscreen.

It switches off whenever one uses the main smartwatch display, and switches back on whenever the OLED display is switched off. Thus the user always has a means to quickly check the time (and basic information such as heart rate), and they can even switch off most smart features in what Mobvoi calls "Essential Mode."

Canalys: Google Leads in Smart Speakers

Smart speakers remain the fastest-growing CE segment in the world, Canalys reports-- global shipments total 9 million in Q1 2018, an impressive 210% Y-o-Y increase with, in a first, Google taking the top spot.

Google Home and Home Mini shipments reach 3.2m in the quarter. In comparison, 2nd placing Amazon Echo device shipments clock at 2.5m. The behind such growth for the search giant comes through new markets, such as India, where the companies looks into new go-to-market strategies by teaming up with service providers.

Razer Updates Blade Laptop

Razer presents the next model in the Blade gaming laptop range-- the Blade 15, an update on the Razer 14 the company claims is "the world's smallest 15.6-inch gaming laptop."

Razer BladeThe Blade 15 features a chassis CNC milled out of a single block of aluminium. It measures 355 x 235 x 16.8mm, weighs around 2kg (depending on configuration) and carries a range of specifications, including 8th Gen an Intel Core i7-8750H (6C/12T with base 2.2GHz and boost of 4.1GHz) CPU and either an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) or GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB) GPU.

Further specifications include 16GB of 2667MHz dual-channel system memory and up to 512GB PCIe SSD storage (with support for up to 32GB RAM and 2TB storage). Connectivity comes through Intel Wireless-AC 9260 (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 5, Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), USB 3.1 port x3 (SuperSpeed), Mini DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0 audio and video output. An 80Wh Li-Po battery comes installed.
