HP Intros Omen 15 Gaming Laptop

HP announces an addition to the Omen laptop lineup at the HP Gaming Festival in Beijing, China-- an update on the Omen 15, a notebook the company describes as "faster, smaller and more powerful than ever."

HP Omen 15The Omen 15 offers a 15.6-inch display in either 144Hz 1080p or 60Hz 4K flavours, together with an 8th generation Intel Core i5+/i7+ CPU with up to 6 cores, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics, up to 32GB DDR4 RAM and SSD, HDD, SSD+HDD and HDD+Intel Optane storage options. It is also smaller than the previous model, since it weighs 2.5kg, and and comes inside a metal chassis.

The event also has HP unveil a number of gaming accessories. These include the Sequencer, a keyboard featuring optical-mechanical Blue switch technology the company claims are 10x faster than traditional switchers. Also included in the keyboard are a roller bar, dedicated media keys and RGB LED lighting users can control via Omen Command Centre software.

Sweam is a TI DLP mobile projector with a touch screen, built-in 4G, Android operating system and wi-fi. This means you can download any apps of your choice and stream video wherever you want.

Sweam is an easy-to-use stand-alone projector, small enough to fit into a jacket pocket, providing both sideward and upward projection.

You won’t need to connect this projector to a phone or a computer. It has its own 4G connection and wi-fi.

No Show for Essential Home Device?

Around a year ago Essential, the company founded by Android creator Andy Rubin, revealed an Amazon Echo-style smart speaker dubbed the "Home." However, if Bloomberg is correct, the device might never make it to market.

Essential HomeAccording to Bloomberg, Essential is in trouble-- so much so it is "considering selling itself," with Credit Suisse helping with the sale. Such a deal would cover the entire company, including its patent portfolio and hardware products such as the Essential smartphone and the aforementioned Home speaker. Also "likely" to be part of the deal is the Essential stable of engineering talent, whose members include ex-Apple and Google hires.

So far Rubin has replied to the Bloomberg story via Twitter, posting “We always have multiple products in development at the same time and we embrace canceling some in favor of the ones we think will be bigger hits. We are putting all of our efforts towards our future, game-changing products, which include mobile and home products.”

Seagate joins forces with HTC to launch the VR Power Drive-- a hybrid of power bank and portable HDD designed for use with VR hardware, such as HTC's own standalone Vive Focus.

Seagate VR Power DriveThe VR Power Drive carries a 5000mAh battery together with a 1000GB HDD. It connects to headsets via built-in micro USB cable and USB-C adapter, allowing users to access media content without need for a PC. It is also compatible with mobile devices, acting as both media storage and power bank for smartphones or tablets. A detachable belt clip makes the drive wearable.

However the device does have one weakness-- it is not able to offer power and storage access simultaneously. Instead, users have to switch between one function and the other through a switch.

Samsung 2018 TVs Get FreeSync

The 2018 Samsung QLED TV lineup gets an update promising smoother gaming-- FreeSync, the AMD software able to sync refresh and frame rates in order to reduce screen tearing and stuttering.

Samsung freesyncFreeSync is similar to an Nvidia Solution, G-Sync. It was previously available only in monitors, and other than gaming PCs equipped with AMD GPUs it can be handled by the latest Xbox consoles, the S and X, thanks to a recent update.
