Roccat Puts Own Switch in Vulcan Keyboard

Computex 2018 has Roccat announce a gaming keyboard featuring an own mechanical switch-- the Vulcan, based on the in-house-developed Titan switches the company says offers "swift and precise" key strokes.

Roccat VulcanThe Titan switch is supposedly designed "from the ground up" for gamer customers, with a tactile 1.8mm actuation point, 3.6mm travel distance and quiet performance. The result, the company claims, is "the most responsive and best-feeling key stroke ever," especially when combined with the ultra-light key caps (50% than standard) found in the Vulcan keyboard.

Asus Replaces Zenbook Pro Touchpad With Touchscreen

Asus launches the next ZenBook device at Computex 2018-- the ZenBook Pro, a notebook featuring a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution touchscreen dubbed the "ScreenPad" instead of the regular touchpad.

Asus ZenBook ProAs the company puts it, the ScreenPad is similar to the touchbar found in the most recent Apple MacBooks. It shows adaptive menus and controls depending to the app in use and is large enough to run full apps, including a calculator, music player, numeric keypad and app launcher. In addition, Asus says the display should also handle browser extensions, such as YouTube controls.

But what about the rest of the notebook? The ZenBook Pro comes in two sizes, 15.6-inch with a 4K display (UX580) and 14-inch with an Ergo Lift hinge able to lift the keyboard for a better typing angle (UX480). The UX580 offers a range of specs, with either 8th generation Intel Core i5, Core i7 or even Core i9 processor, GeForce 1050 Ti graphics and up to 16GB RAM. Meanwhile the UX480 carries up to a Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and Nvidia Max-Q-enabled GTX 1050 graphics.

Apple TV Gets Dolby Atmos

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has one announcement relating what was the company's hobby, the Apple TV-- tvOS 12, the latest version of the software powering the STB, features Dolby Atmos support.

Apple TV 4KThe announcement makes the most recent Apple TV 4K the first (and so far only) streaming device with support for both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. Once the update rolls out Apple will add Dolby Atmos audio to movies in customers' iTunes libraries for free, just like when Apple added 4K media support to the STB.

Other updates make the STB easier to use-- one can AutoFill passwords from iPhone or iPad to Apple TV to sign into Apple TV apps, and the Apple TV remote will be automatically added to the iOS 12 Control Center app. In addition, Control4, Crestron and Savant home control systems get Apple TV voice control via Siri compatibility.

As well as CDs it handles CD-R/CD-RW discs, allowing users to burn MP3 or WMA files on disc for longer playlists.

Xiaomi Launches Mi Band 3

Xiaomi presents the latest version of the Mi Band low-cost fitness wearable-- the Mi Band 3, featuring a bigger, higher resolution OLED screen as well as a more comfortable removable rubber strap.

Xiaomi Mi Band 3The Mi Band 3 display is 0.78-inch (up from the 0.42-inch Mi Band 2), with 128 x 80 resolution. It is capacitive, allowing one to go through notifications and messages, not to mention navigate the menu via touch gestures.  Power comes through a 11mAh battery promising up to 20 days of use on a single charge. Connectivity comes through Bluetooth 4.2 LE.
