AOC presents the V2 monitor series with a choice of 3 sizes-- the 21.5-inch 22V2Q, the 23.8-inch 24V2Q and the 27-inch 27V2Q-- all "as slim as a smartphone" and with the same 3-sided frameless design.

AOC V2The monitors carry a 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS panel with WLED backlight, wide viewing angles (178°/178°) and 72% NTSC colour gamut coverage. Also on offer is a quick 5ms response time, 75Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync support, together with technologies such as Flicker-Free (regulates brightness with DC instead of pulse width modulation) and a Low Blue Mode reducing blue wavelengths.

Strategy Analytics: Smart Speakers Boost Home Automation

The global smart home market is worth $84 billion in 2017, Strategy Analytics reports-- a 16% increase from the $72bn of 2016. The market is set to reach $96bn in 2018, before growing with a CAGR of 10% to $155bn in 2023.

Smart homeN. America leads in spending with 41% of the total, or $40bn, followed by Asia-Pacific at $26bn and W. Europe at $17bn. In our part of the world, market drivers come from big names such as UK-based Centrica Connected Homes' Hive, Deutsche Telekom's Magenta Home, the German eQ-3 and Enco Toon in the Netherlands.

Razer Presents Huntsman Elite Keyboard

Razer launches the Huntsman Elite-- a flagship gaming keyboard featuring the company's own branded "Opto-Mechanical" switches promising both more speed and durability compared to other switches.

Razer Huntsman eliteOpto-mechanical swtiches are based on breaking an IR beam when a key is pressed. According to Razer, this principle makes for a simpler construction than traditional mechanical keys, since they do not have the physical characteristics causing problems in traditional mechanical switch designs. In addition, the opto-mechanical switch has a 1.5mm actuation point, allowing for a 30% speed increase, while actuation force is at a light 45g. Each switch has a metal key stabiliser bar, and is rated for up to 100 million keystrokes.

Corsair Buys Elgato Gaming

Corsair sets to become a bigger player in the lucrative gaming market as it acquires Elgato Gaming, the Elgato division handling game streaming, video capture and laptop docking products.

Elgato GamingFinancial details of the deal are not available.

The acquisition includes the Elgato brand-- and since Elgato (the company) now consists solely of the Eve smart home products group, it is renaming itself as Eve Systems. In turn, the Elgato brand is to operate as a separate brand within Corsair, probably maintaining the current product lineup.

The Tanita ES-100 is one of those unique gadgets one can only find in Japan-- it is a means for one to gauge their hygiene level, making it a weapon against what the Japanese call "sumeru harasumento" (or "smell harassment").

Tabita ES100To use the ES-100, one simply needs to flip it open, turning it into a handheld wand of sorts. The tip carries a sensor able to measure the amount of odour-producing particulates in the vicinity, and the device gives a score out of 10 (where 0 means a lack of smell and 10 is very smelly) once counting is over.
