Sony Debuts Xperia X72 Premium

Sony launches what it claims is the smartphone with the highest ISO around-- the Xperia X72 Premium, the first handset from the camera with a dual-camera array promising ISO reaching 51200 for photos.

Xperia X72 PremiumThe camera array pairs a primary 19MP sensor with a 12MP monochrome sensor to improve low-light performance. The two sensors feed image data to a AUBE fusion image signal processor to enable what Sony describes as "ultra sensitivity with clean, noise-less images." Video recording is also improved, with a "Motion Eye" system enabling 960fps recording with ISO 12800 sensitivity.

The Smallest Surface Yet

Microsoft confirms rumours of a smaller Surface tablet as it announces the Surface Go-- a smaller and lower cost Surface device featuring a 10-inch screen and a Pentium Gold 4415Y processor.

Surface GoThe Go might be smaller, but it retains all core features of the Surface line, including the 3:2 display aspect ratio (1800 x 1200 resolution), built-in kickstand, 5MP front-facing camera with facial recognition login, 8MP rear-facing camera and the Connector port for charging and connecting to a dock. On the tech spec side it is something of a downgrade though, with 4/8GB RAM, 64/128GB storage and reduced battery life (around 9 hours).

Apple Drops Intel Modems for Future iPhones?

According to Calacalist, Apple will no longer use Intel wifi and Bluetooth components in iPhones come 2020, leading to Chipzilla stopping work on the components internally dubbed "Sunny Peak."

iPhone AppleSupposed Intel communications seen by Calcalist describe Apple as a "key mobile customer" and "main volume driver" for Sunny Peak. However, with Apple no longer buying the product, Intel is said to be redirecting the development team on other efforts. It is not clear why Apple is dropping the Intel components, but the news website points out the "many factors" involved in the "massive effort" to launch a 5G-capable iPhone

Igloohome announces a pair of smart home security products-- the Deadbolt 2S, described by the company as the slimmest smart deadbolt in the world, and the Smart Keybox 2 connected lockbox.

Igloohome DeadboltThe Deadbolt 2S is 11m thick at the front panel, and provides keyless access to homes via either Bluetooth keys or PIN codes created through companion Igloohome app. The physical key remains an option as backup, and the Deadbolt 2S needs no internet connectivity, making it safe from wifi hacking attacks. Finally, customers renting out property via Airbnb can also synchronise the Deadbolt 2S with a listing calendar to automatically create PIN codes for guests. Further features include a tamper alarm, decoy security code, privacy mode and auto-relocking.
