Western Digital presents an interesting 2-in-1 SanDisk solution-- the iXpand Base, a device providing customers means to charge the iPhone while backing up its photos, videos and contacts.

iXpand BaseThe iXpand Base has a Lightning cable on one side and a power cord on the other. According to WD, it is designed for charging the iPhone on a nightly basis, and while the smartphone is charging it backs up all critical files via iXpand Base app, thus providing automatic nightly backups.

Internal storage totals up to 256GB, and it can be used to offload photos and other files to save iPhone space. The backup feature also allows one to easily transfer contents to a new phone, since it simply involves installing the companion app and plugging it in.

What Apple Wants: Samsung OLED Alternatives?

Well connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the next iPhone brings Apple a massive dilemma-- being sole OLED supplier lends Samsung power in the negotiation of display prices, leading to production costs.

iPhone OLED conceptAs AppleInsider reports, Kuo says OLED prices cost Apple $120-130 per unit, much higher than the $45-55 per unit Apple is believed to be paying for iPhone 7 LCD displays. Thus, the analyst states, Apple is "in urgent need" for a second OLED source. However such a task is no way easy, since such a supplier needs to ramp up OLED output while meeting Apple quality control standards.

An iPhone Case to Charge the AirPods

Pebble creator Eric Migicovsky takes to Kickstarter to launch the PodCase-- an iPhone case designed to make the life of AirPods user a little bit easier via integrated charger.

PodcaseMigicovsky describes the PodCase as a "slim case for carrying and charging your iPhone and AirPods." It features a 2500mAh battery (allowing for either 40 AirPod charges or one iPhone charge) together with a USB-C port for the charging of other devices, such as a MacBook. Grooves on the back allow one to slot the AirPods in place when not in use.

Xiaomi Takes on MacBook Pro With Mi Notebook Pro

Xiaomi follows on last year's Mi Notebook Air with a take on the MacBook Pro-- the Mi Notebook Pro, a 15.6-inch laptop powered by the latest Intel quad-core i7 processor.

Mi Note ProAlso found inside the Mi Notebook Pro are up to 16GB RAM, up to 1TB SSD storage and, as an alternative to Intel integrated graphics, an Nvidia GeForce MX 150 chip. The display is clad in Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has side bezels of just 6.25mm, with the webcam built inside the top bezel.
