Sonos Intros One Smart Speaker

Sonos confirms rumours of its making a smart speaker with the One-- the first product from the company with native voice assistant support, initially via Amazon Alexa.

Sonos OneThe One is essentially a refresh of the Play:1 for the smart speaker era. It features a cuboid design with rounded edges in either black or white, and acts as either a standalone speaker or paired with other Sonos audio products as part of a multi-speaker setup. Setup and management come through Sonos mobile app, and the speaker handles a number of streaming services, including including Amazon Music, Pandora, IHeartRadio, TuneIn and SiriusXm.

Netgear Updates Arlo Pro 2 Camera

Netgear's Arlo security unit presents an update of the Pro camera-- the Pro 2 brings improvements such as 1080p video capture (up from the previous 720p), means to set up alert zones and Amazon Alexa support.

Netgear Arlo 2The alert zone feature allows one to set different alert parameters through the companion app, such as whenever someone is walking on the lawn but not on the pavement. It comes in conjunction to an optional subscription plan extending the cloud-based storage of 24/7 recordings from an Arlo camera for between 14 to 60 days.

Without the subscription, customers can store up to 7 days of recordings-- as triggered by sound or motion-- on the Netgear cloud. A "look back" feature allows one to vew activity 3 seconds before motion is detected for a more complete picture of events.

Google Pixel Smartphone Gets Sequel

Google might be serious about different kinds of devices, but the man focus of the Pixel 2 is event obviously the Pixel 2, the sequel to last year's flagship smartphone from the search giant.

Google Pixel 2Perhaps unsurprisingly the Pixel 2 is less an revolution and more a revolution of the previous model. It comes in 2 versions, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, with display size marking the only difference between the two-- the regular Pixel 2 has a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 OLED display, while the 6-inch Pixel 2 XL has a 2880 x 1440 OLED screen.

On the specs side, both the Pixel 2 models carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM, 64/128GB storage, dual front-facing speakers, 12.2MP rear-facing camera with an autofocus using a laser and dual-pixel phase detection, 8MP fixed-focus front-facing camera, Bluetooth 5.0 wireless and USB-C connectivity.

More Google Devices at Pixel 2 Event

The Google Pixel 2 event might have technically been about the flagship smartphone, but the search giant also found the time to reveal a range of other devices-- the Pixelbook Chromebook, the Home Max and Mini smart speakers, and the Clip camera.

PIxel DevicesTying all the recently announced Google devices together is Assistant, the Google virtual assistant. The search giant says the launch builds on its current "AI-first philosophy," making a combination of hardware and software able to learn and adapt to the user.

But on to the devices themselves. The Pixelbook is a continuation of Google's Chromebook efforts, being a 12.3-inch notebook powered by the browser-based OS, with built-in Google Assistant and Play Store support. It is 10mm thick, weighs 1kg and carries 7th generation Intel i5/i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, up to 512GB SSD storage and a battery promising 10 hours of use on a single charge.
