The Next Mini Console: The Sega Mega Drive

A little more than a year ago Sega celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Mega Drive by presenting a "classic edition" of the seminal console. Now the company is ready to reveal more details, including a launch date, for the Mega Drive Mini.

Sega Mega Drive MiniPresented at the Sega Fes 2019 event, the Mega Drive Mini is exactly what it says on the tin-- a miniature version of the 16-bit Mega Drive (aka the Genesis in the US) designed to work with modern TVs. It includes 40 built-in "legendary games," and so far Sega confirms Ecco the Dolphin, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Space Harrier 2, Shining Force, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Machine, ToeJam & Earl, Comix Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes.

Gartner: 5G Brings Augmented Reality Shopping

According to Gartner, 100 million customers will shop in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) both online and in-store, as the technology has the potential to radically shake up the customer experience.

AR Shopping“Retailers are under increasing pressure to explain the purpose of physical stores, and take control of the fulfillment and return process for cross-channel execution,” the analyst says. “At the same time, consumers are progressively defining the value provided by the experiences they receive from retailers. As a result of these pressures, retailers are turning to AR and VR to offer customers a unified retail experience inside and outside retail stores.”

AirPower Charger is No More

The long awaited AirPower wireless charger is no more, as Apple admits to TechCruch it failed to meet internal "high standards" for the product, not to mention what appear to be difficulties brought about its design.

"We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward."

Xiaomi Updates Mi Notebook Air

Xiaomi announces a 2019 version of the MacBook-style Mi Notebook Air, with an update featuring a choice of 8th generation Intel processors within a metal body all of 5.71mm thick.

It comes in a number of configurations, with either an 8th gen Intel m3-8100Y or Core i5-8250U processor. The m3 model comes with 4GB of memory and 128/258GB storage, while the i5 model includes 4GB of memory and 256GB storage.

Huawei Launches P30 Smartphones

An event in Paris brings all the details on the P30, a series of flagship smartphones Huawei claims will do nothing less than "rewrite the rules of photography" through the addition of a four-camera setup.

Huawei P30The P30 comes in 2 variants, regular and Pro. The Pro is the model with the most photography chops, since it features a 40MP Super Spectrum sensor, an ultra-wide 20MP sensor, a "Periscope zoom" allowing for 5x optical zoom and a flight depth-sensing camera. The 40MP sensor swaps the regular RGB colour filter for RYYB (red, blue, yellow), an arrangement the company says absorbs 40% more light to allow for cleaner photos. In addition, the company says a combination of the 5x periscope zoom with data from the other sensors produces a 10x lossless zoom.
